Research is the cornerstone of MetaMetrics®. Today, its influence spans the education industry, government, non-profit, policy and research sectors across the globe.

Substantial investment has been made to create a team with impressive academic rigor, with over half of the MetaMetrics team in roles as psychometricians, data scientists and researchers. The important part that research plays in the company’s operation can be seen through the success of its staff. More than half of the members of their team hold doctorate and graduate degrees from some of the most prestigious universities in the world, including Duke University, Princeton University, Stanford University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

This team developed the first quantitative measurement system, the Lexile Framework for Reading, to place text and learners on a single scale. Further research projects extended their knowledge of real-world reading demands for the earliest of learners to those entering into university and careers. The organisation continues to have a dynamic research pipeline. Backed by the academic research community, there are hundreds of independent research studies validating Lexile® measures or utilising them as the methodology to gauge text complexity or measure reading comprehension.
